What Is Deionized Water Window Cleaning? (And Why It's Better)

You've probably seen window cleaning companies advertise 'pure water' or 'deionized water' systems. Here's exactly what that means, why it produces better results, and why Green Window Cleaning uses it on every job in OKC.

What Is Deionized Water?

Deionized water (also called "pure water" or "DI water") is water that has had all dissolved minerals, salts, and ions removed through a filtration process. Regular tap water — even water that looks clean — contains dissolved calcium, magnesium, sodium, and other minerals. When that water evaporates on glass, those minerals are left behind as white spots and streaks.

Deionized water contains none of those minerals. When it evaporates, it leaves absolutely nothing behind — just clean, clear glass.

How the Waterfed Pole System Works

At Green Window Cleaning, we use a professional waterfed pole system that combines deionized water with a specialized brush head. Here's the process:

  1. Water is purified: Our system filters tap water through multiple stages to produce 0 TDS (total dissolved solids) pure water.
  2. Brush agitates the glass: The soft brush head scrubs dirt, pollen, and grime from the glass and frame.
  3. Pure water rinses clean: The deionized water rinses everything away. Because there are no minerals in the water, it dries completely spot-free.
  4. No squeegee needed: Unlike traditional window cleaning, there's no need to squeegee — the pure water does the work.

Benefits Over Traditional Window Cleaning

Traditional window cleaning uses soap, squeegees, and ladders. While effective, it has limitations that the waterfed pole system solves:

  • No ladders on your property: The waterfed pole extends up to 70 feet, reaching most residential windows from the ground. No ladder marks on your siding or landscaping.
  • Soap residue attracts dirt: Traditional cleaning leaves a thin soap film that actually attracts dust and pollen, making windows dirty faster. Pure water leaves no residue.
  • Frames and sills cleaned too: The brush cleans the entire window frame and sill, not just the glass — something squeegee cleaning often misses.
  • Safer for your home: No chemicals means no risk of damage to window seals, frames, or surrounding surfaces.

Is It Effective on Stubborn Stains?

For regular maintenance cleaning, deionized water is superior to traditional methods. However, for heavy hard water stains, mineral deposits, or oxidation, we use specialized solutions before the pure water rinse. The combination of professional-grade cleaning agents followed by a deionized water rinse produces the best possible result on even the most neglected windows.

Why Oklahoma Homes Benefit Especially

Oklahoma City's water supply has relatively high mineral content. This means traditional window cleaning with tap water leaves more spots than in other parts of the country. Our deionized water system eliminates this problem entirely — your windows dry spot-free every time, regardless of water quality.
